The Arkansas River Basin snowpack is now 72% of average, thanks to nearly a 10% boost from snowfall in February. Eric Peterson is with the National Weather Service in Pueblo. He says although the recent snowfall helps and more snow is predicted for the weekend, it won’t completely fix the situation.

“We would need several months like we had in February to catch back up. So it’s unlikely that we are going to do so unless we get a series of really big storms to come through this spring.”

Peterson says although March and April can bring a lot of snow, he doesn’t anticipate enough to bring the snowpack up to par. The most recent Snotel figures estimate statewide snowpack at 76% of average. For KRCC news, I’m Katherine-Claire O’Connor.
