Energy regulators in Colorado are examining whether to increase the distance between oil and gas drilling sites and buildings such as schools and homes. They’re also considering a water-testing requirement that would need to be done before and after drilling takes place. Bente Birkeland has more from the state capitol.

Meanwhile, Colorado Springs City Council voted 7-2 yesterday to postpone a decision on oil and gas regulations. Councilors Merv Bennett and Angela Dougan cast the two dissenting votes.

    Of course the water would need to be tested before drilling and regularly after drilling and once the wells are in place! That’s a no-brainer. Unfortunately there is no way of telling when (not if) well casings deep under the ground fail. That’s when our aquifers get contaminated and that’s why fracking in general is a REALLY BAD IDEA!
