The Environmental Protection Agency has given final approval to Colorado’s strategy to reduce air pollution, which relies heavily on switching some coal fired power plants to natural gas. The Regional Haze Plan is being praised by Governor John Hickenlooper for meeting national air quality standards. Tisha Schuller is President of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association. She says approval of the plan is an important endorsement for the state lead collaboration…

“And as a result, the Clean air Clean Jobs Act will support job creation in Colorado’s natural gas sector while measurably reducing air pollutant emissions.”

The Clean Air, Clean Jobs Act was passed by the state legislature in 2010. It pushed the state’s two investor owned utilities to cut emissions by at least 70 percent over the next 7 years. The plan aims to reduce air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide by 70,000 tons a year at 16 facilities across Colorado and 35,000 tons of Nitrogen Oxides which causes smog.
