For the last few months I’ve been building what the authorities refer to as a multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle. It turns out that transforming a box of wires, motors and various doodads into something that flies – mostly from scratch – takes a hell of a lot longer than I had initially anticipated. Despite the challenges inherent in such an endeavor, things are progressing rapidly at this stage and I hope to get this thing off the ground in the next week or so. Of course, we’re going to affix a high definition action camera to the vehicle and provide all manner of wondrous footage to you, our loyal Big Something readers/viewers/listeners. So the question is: What kinds of things would you like to see from above? Post your ideas and desires in the comments below and we might just make your dreams come true in the coming days.

To give you a visual representation of the kind of thing I’m talking about, take a look at the videos below. The first is a radio controlled aeroplane zipping about and above the Garden of the Gods and the second is a quadcopter flying around that very same Garden of the Gods.

We’ll post more information on the specifics of the building process and pictures of the craft once it gains air-worthiness.

I can’t think of any jokey things because what I’d really love to see from above is the Waldo Canyon burn scar, with a focus on the present state of the Waldo Canyon Trail. Not likely, I know, but you asked!

  2. Mary Ellen Davis says:

How about the Hayman burn area so we can see the future?

  3. Aubrey Fennewald says:

Wow! Your flying contraption would be a great entry for the Imagination Celebration’s “What If…” Festival! You should hit them up! 😀
