Newly-completed ski run of logs with board sides in stand of pine trees. Note included with print reads “Silver Spruce Ski Club. The Silver Spruce Ski Club was organized and founded in the early 1920’s by Colorado Springs residents Clarence Coil, John Fowler and Doug Schaefer. The area near Edlo, between Woodland Park and Divide on which the Merriman cabin stood, was home ground for the club which included numerous jumps and toboggan runs constructed by club members. Thor Groswold, international ski expert, helped with much of the advising in the early stages. The SSSC enjoyed skiing on week-ends near Edlo and also traveled to other resorts such as Steamboat Springs and Genesee. The Club is no longer in existence. The photos were taken by Clarence Coil, a widely known photographers of the Pikes Peak Region. 4/3/73.”
