In Canon City, a new administrative-maximum security prison will open its doors September 1 to more than 300 inmates (KRDO).

Two judges for the Fourth Judicial District have announced their retirement, and the local nominating commission will meet next month to select nominees for the governors consideration (Business Journal).

The Pueblo City Council rejected a ballot question that would have let city voters decide whether to allow medical marijuana centers in Pueblo (Chieftain).

As part of an ongoing reduction of the Las Animas Countys General Fund expenditures, the board of commissioners voted last week to reduce travel expense reimbursement for county employees, as well as the countys matching of employee retirement funds (Trinidad Times).
